FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

I am still getting some 2.2s overnight although nowhere near as many as @logindetails

I'm sure it's when I lie on the sensor as I am not hypoing when it happens. It's always 2.2 and it only lasts for about 30 minutes. There is certainly no bolus on board to cause such a quick drop and it then recovers almost perfectly to where it was before.

No, I don't believe the 2.2's - actually I suspect I was around 4.5 but even if I had dropped to 1.1 the Libre would have recorded it as 2.2 because that's the lowest figure it will record.
 
Please just don't go necessarily jumping in and altering insulins when you see overnight 2.2's. Certainly without having a night of actually testing your bloods. Lying on sensors can give falso low readings as can the weight and warmth of duvets.
 
Donnellysdogs, I've seen the same assertion made before based on previous Abbot sensors, but playing devil's advocate for a moment, if I was releasing a mass market sensor based system, I'd be making pretty certain that it wasn't affected by the kind of bedding the majority of people use and certainly trying to make sure that it wasn't affected by lying on it.

Do we have evidence of this supposed weakness in the Libre sensors or is it documented somewhere, before we cast stones?

I can't see how anyone would offer it as a prescription solution with that kind of issue.

No all I am saying is that if you get flatline lows on sensors try not lying on it or having arm outside of coverings. Do tests before changing anything.......

Your sensors with Libre's are now being fully tested with many different individuals.. As with all equipment from cars through to meds etc nothing is fully tried n tested until it is launched.
 
I know it's incredibly early days with this gizmo, but has anyone heard how this can stand up for itself in salt water? I wonder if any of the trialists went on holiday whilst using it.

Mine managed 25 min yesterday in a salt water pool. I was a bit wary but they say you can swim in in and I swim with a pump cannula.
The libre gave me a reading afterwards that was higher than my meter.(all the others have been lower so far). I often have very low meter readings after swimming which I've thought for a long time aren't accurate (maybe to do with effects of cold on blood circulation , it was only 17C yesterday)
 

Thanks Phoenix. Where I spend quite a bit of time, the ocean varies from the current 28c down to a "bracing" 25c in January/February time, so cold water isn't an issue. I'm more concerned about the very high salinity there.

Thanks Tim - I was following this blogger early on and was a little concerned that he'd gone quiet after the first sensor.

The experiences and thoughts here definitely echo mine. I'm still on my first sensor and it is now pretty accurate almost all of the time - but it's day 5 and it really took at least 3 days to get it there. You only need a sensor glitch as many on here have had, and it renders your charts pretty useless on the reader as you do not have the choice to look at only 3 days for example - it is 7, 14 etc, so the early days of a bad sensor messes up the lot making it unsuitable for the DVLA evidence for example and you can't reset the reader history so you're stuck with it for 90 days until it ages out. If you download the data and manipulate it on the PC you can overcome this, but not on the reader itself. To be fair, it's one of the reasons I never use the history part of the Accuchek Mobile and instead download the data to my own spreadsheet and graphs so I can weed out the inevitable rubbish. I was also completely misunderstanding of what the trend arrows really mean - the blogger had the same misunderstanding and it is an important issue. Horizontal arrow means changing slowly - it doesn't mean stable - so I managed to drift from 5 something to 10 something on Sunday evening without the trend arrow ever leaving horizontal - that means it will not help me decide whether to correct or leave alone a high or low bedtime level that is moving slowly. All that aside, it is an amazing piece of technology and gives incredibly useful insights into what your hidden BGs are doing. Sadly, my conclusion so far is that it is a powerful additional tool in managing my diabetes, not a replacement tool. For the UK, that probably means it won't be adopted by the NHS any time soon - they'd end up having to fund it in addition to test strips and that makes it economically unviable for the majority. I'm hoping the next few weeks change my mind on that!

Hi everyone, I just wanted to update in case anyone else was interested.

I received a reply from Abbott yesterday afternoon, they advised that the sensors subscription is not available at the moment and they have no idea when it will be available.
 
Perhaps they'll change that - factory calibration with no manual override. They should think about it.

I've just had my first potentially-serious issue with the Libre. I was feeling pretty ropey and thinking I'm heading rapidly into a hypo. I was nowhere near my BG testing kit - I know, I know LOL. Anyway, I hurried back to where it was and was feeling like things were getting bad - it was about 5 minutes away (and I know you're all going to quite rightly say I should have corrected and worried about testing later, but I wanted to see what each device would register). Sure enough, Mobile registered at 2.9, Libre scan was registering 4.2 and horizontal arrow. I corrected straightaway, so I can't tell you if the Libre would have caught up 10 minutes later, but I guess I would have expected to see a 'rapid-drop' arrow if that was going to be the case. No indication of anything wrong. On this occasion, I'd say the way I was feeling would point at the Mobile being more accurate. Anyway, I'll download the data from Libre later and check what it really thought was going on at that time.

I'm fine BTW - no harm done - and the little Mars Celebration was the perfect hypo treat(ment)!

This is why they say if symptoms and readings aren't matching, to do a blood test and also at times of rapidly changing blood sugar levels. What concerns me is what if you had loss of hypo symptoms, a 4.2 with a level arrow would maybe have you thinking about having a little bit of something soon, but not to reach for the bottle of lucozade asap.
 
With some users experiencing better sensor accuracy than others I was wondering if we are all getting sensors from the same batch or not.

All three of the sensors I have had so far have the following printed on the applicator screw top:

F69 > is this a batch or version identifier?
0M00000xxxx > serial number but '0M00000' is the same on all three of my sensors (possible batch or version identifier).
2015/02 > expiry date.

Is anyone's different?
 
@logindetails - I've got Code F71, but the same start to the serial number and the same expiry date as you.
