FREESTYLE LIBRE RECORDING FAULTY

My Libre download to the computer on the daily graph shows no records from approx 8pm to midnight when it starts again continuously till abut 8pm and stops.
There is no graph on the reader for that period although the reader has made a scan about 8pm so within the 8 hours. The Freestyle Tech help has concentrated on resetting the reader but to mind it is the sensor. Was fine for the first 2 days on the sensor but the problems continuous since then. Appreciate any advice as the Abbott technical helpline is quite useless

Had you left the sensor 'unscanned' for more than 8 hours by any chance ? Mine gave a missed few hours the other day and I realised I hadn't scanned it from about 6:30 at night until about 5 am. It had therefore 'lost' the period from 6:30 until 9pm but still had the 8 hours leading up to 5am. I'm jusst new to Libre so it wasn't obvious to me immediately... my apologies if you are a long time user and know all about it.

Yes I had scanned at about 8pm and the graph on the reader stopped soon after, However I understand that the sensor detail that you download on the computer should continue regardless of the lack of scans in the last 8 hours. I am a newbie on my first sensor

From memory I think that the sensor does indeed continue reading whether or not you scan but it will only hold information for eight hours so if you don't scan often enough you lose any information more than eight hours old. I don't know where I read that but I have always scanned frequently to avoid that happening.

I think I will have to go find where I got that information because I don't always plug it into the computer every eight hours so it must remember something.

I think that the sensor keeps reading but can only store 8 hours of data. When you scan it the data transfers to the reader which you then attach to computer.

If you leave the sensor 'unscanned' for say 12 hours, then hours 1 to 4 of data will be lost as the sensor can only store 8 hours worth (it keeps the most recent 8 hours and drops off the older data). When you do scan it the reader picks up the last 8 hours of data (hours 5 to 12) which then get transferred to computer.

I THINK this is how it works.

I once had a gap overnight thanks to an early night and a very rare sleep-through until morning. It was literally just a gap in my graph, and after I scanned in the the graph line started after that gap. That's the only time I've ever not scanned in 8 hours! It's normally like 8 minutes......! :joyful:

I got this from the Abbott web site.

"The FreeStyle Libre sensor automatically measures and continuously stores glucose readings day and night. The sensor updates the glucose result up to every minute and stores up to 8 hours of glucose readings in 15 minute intervals. Can be worn for up to 14 days."

EDIT. Delete daft comment.

The sensor stores up to 8 hours of data. It only ever keeps the most recent data (up to 8 hours worth) and anything older just drops off and is lost forever. Hence you need to scan the sensor at least every 8 hours and get the data transferred onto the reader otherwise it will be lost.

Its the reader that can store and analyse lots of data once it has read the data off the sensor (when you scan it). The reader must have quite a lot of storage so it can do things like 14 day average.

I'm just guessing this is what is going on.

The Abbott technical support told me how to reset the reader. Since then the download to my computer has been continuous with no gaps even when the reader has not been scanned for outside 8 hours. When that happens the graphs on the reader certainly are limited to 8 hours. Many thanks for the replies above

Can you share how to reset the reader? I have what looks like the same issue and can't get through to technical support.
