Hiya, I was wondering if any of you have the freestyle libre flash glucose monitor?
In our area, there are only 2 available but our diabetic nurse has mentioned that we could possibly just buy the sensor and use the mobile app as the reader, saving substantially cost wise. Has anyone else done this?

Thank you

so long as you have a compatible Android phone that has NFC you can use the librelink app instead of the reader and just pay for the sensors.

I've have no experience of this but many do, I'm an iphone user :sour:

Yes, you can do it with an Android phone. The sensor can be scanned however only by a single device, the same that was used to initiate the sensor: i.e. if you started a sensor with a scanner you cannot use the phone app until the next sensor. I guess this works both ways.
I have downloaded the app and that was the message

Hi. Yes this is what I do and it works great, gives you all the same features and trend graphs as the reader does...its brill

I have a Samsung S4 mini, which has NFC - can anyone confirm that this model works with the Libre sensors?

On another note.... is the 4-7 days delivery typical? I go on holiday on Wednesday..... if I ordered tonight, what's the chances it would arrive before I leave?

Barbara - This link is the checker for NFC compatability. Just pop your phone model details in and look it up: https://www.unitag.io/nfc/is-my-phone-compatible-with-nfc

Slip, I'm an Apple disciple too and am currently still on the 5s. The 6 and beyond have NFC technology I believe, but I have no idea if there is a LibreLink app in the iTunes store.

You'll find the NFC confirmation on this list: https://www.unitag.io/nfc/is-my-phone-compatible-with-nfc , but I haven't looked in iTunes as my phone is incompatible, and I'd doubtless feel compelled to change if I found an app! Such is my fickle nature.

Hey ho.

Well my phone is listed.... but the various serial numbers listed against it don't match mine. OTOH, my phone's settings has a toggle for NFC and the user guide tells me what it's about.

Could you not try just downloading it anyway? Or is it compatibility with a sensor you want to try?

I have an iPhone (not compatible) and a Samsung S5 Neo, use it on my S5 and it's fine so far.

The app installs.... so it should work. What's the worst that can happen? I get a sensor, then find it doesn't work with my phone. Then I'd have to buy a reader while the sensor was attached to me.

Hey ho.

Don't go rushing in to upgrade.. you can pay for stuff in shops with the newer iPhones but the NFC is locked down outside of this for now.

I have a reader, which is fine. I'll stick as I am for now, thanks. :)
