Hi , does anybody know if the CCG Bury greater Manchester have allowed funding for the Libre . I do know there have been some people in the Bury area have had it on prescription. But I’m getting no where with my medical practice , even my diabetic specialist has written to my Dr with a letter for him to send to the to the CCG to say this that I would really benefit from this , I have been funding this my self for six months but my dr seems not bothered and seems to think this letter from my specialist won’t help , I just think he is just trying to save money I’m going to write directly to the CCG as I’m getting no where can anybody advise me kind regards

How would it improve your health (and save the NHS long-term money) by having the NHS pay for the libre rather then you pay for it yourself?

It has improved my health as my HAb1 has gone from 8 to 5.5. The NHS are paying for my blood strips which do cost money as my specialist nurse has said my control has been good

You have still not said how the NHS paying for the libre rather then you paying yourself would save the NHS money long term by you having better health. Without an answer to that question, it is hard for the NHS to justify funding the libre for people who already have it. (In the same way, that council homes are only given to people who have not taken responsibility for their own housing needs.)

I'm not sure there should be a restriction on getting a prescription for something that you are currently paying for... the system was no designed to be so picky.
I can't say anything about Bury (GM) as I'm in NE Fife and as a T2 have slightly different pressures than you.
I would rattle the cages and plug away, it's a new thing in the system.
Good luck.

Long term good diabetes control would save the NHS thousands . The alternative to the libre can be more expensive

It's often worth having a ferret around on ccg's websites, @Mark_Goldenfield_ , many of them have committee papers or statements of position posted.

Not familiar with the set up in your part of the country, but the link below looks like a likely candidate, covering Greater Manchester Medicines Management Group. There's a bit on the page about libre with a link through to a recent pdf setting out terms for prescribing it.
