Freestyle Libre

Hi guys,

Like many of you, my CCG will not permit my GP to prescribe the Libre. I’ve today written to my local MP who may be able to put pressure on the CCG, worth a try anyway.

I wondered if anyone has gone down the same route and been successful?

Also, would it be worth others doing the same who are trying to obtain it without self funding?

Thanks

Thanks for the push @RyanJamesAvery

I have referenced the Prime Ministers Questions on 17th October when the question was raised by Steve McCabe and pointed out that Theresa May failed to address the question about giving access to Freestyle Libre for all people with type 1 diabetes. I was also able to provide the very strict criteria need to qualify for them in my area ... which I guess is relevant to my MP.

I am not holding my breath but the email can't hurt.

Does anyone know where I can find out what my CCG's policy on Libre is?
I asked my diabetes nurse.
I am lucky to have a great nurse who is incredible responsive to emails and sent me the policy.
It is probably beneficial that she disagrees with the policy ;)

It will come eventually. Everytime the ccg's are in the position of green lighting a drug/ device they play it this way. It will settle down. Meanwhile speak to you Consultant or DNS

Every CCG has a complaints procedure, 3 stages to reach the Parliamentary and medical ombudsman, you'd be complaining that you personally are been denied access to prescribe able technology by your CCG not having commissioned the device, the criteria for prescription that's being used is that written by RMOC, a link here fyi https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/letter-blood-glucose-monitoring-systems.pdf

I used the local BBC radio to bring the issue up (they like to knock CCGs) MP was pestered (and contacted the CCG to push), complaints to CCG etc., 75% of England have adopted the criteria, some have added bit etc. but if you live in an area who's CCG has refused to commission then they're treating you as second class citizens compared with the compliant 75% so start bothering them, find their websites and look for the links, complain, make a nuisance, complain, I was on first name terms with all the reception staff at ours I rang so many times....

I’m due a call from a DSN tomorrow to find out if I qualify. Been self funding for 3 years and the Superdrug pharmacy I got it from (for the first time) was shocked that I was paying for it, so fingers crossed. My CCG is Cheshire.

My diabetes dr asked me about trying it and gave me one in clinic also gave me a letter for my gp to prescribe then great little device no pain and I can see the patterns in my bgs

I've done the following, written to the P.M, written to my local M.P. written to the local CCG, contacted the local newspaper, had an article published in the paper and online, written to several national newspapers and --- zilch Local CCG not interested at all.

Well done on the effort though!
