Started a two week trial today with the Libre and my word I love it!!!!

Already don't want to give it back and I've only had it 3 hours haha!!

These should definitely be available on NHS.

Has anyone else been asked to trial?

My consultant offered it to me at my last appointment, my dsn says they are trying it out on a good few patients at the moment so it may be worth having a word with your consultant.

Thanks Bex - I'm not due to see him until June. :(

I'm changing pump on March 2nd - so will be at hospital then. But the Freestyle website talks about early 2015 for new customers... I know what I should do... just phone my diabetes team up.

Will see if I can combine a trial with my new pump.
 
Worth a shot! I've been scanning like a demon all afternoon would definitely recommend it if you could get hold of one!

How do you find the pump?
 
I love the pump so much more than injections. Better stability, easier to bolus and fewer night / sport related hypos. Around sport it's REALLY handy to have the active insulin value available so I know what's likely to happen to my levels. Especially if I've had a number of boluses in the 4 hours before. Are you on a pump?
 
No I'm basal/bolus only diagnosed in November so not really explored the pump yet.

I like the idea of it but have a feeling they will want me to stick with my current regime for a good while yet before I would be considered suitable.

Great feedback from an excercise point of view tho as that it where I sometimes struggle!
 
Me neither. I'm Hampshire. There are usually pretty firm criteria to satisfy to be considered for a pump. Then again, if you have an enlightened consultant that helps too. What diet are you using? NHS one? Or low carb high fat?
 
Gosh no avoided NHS one like the bloody plague! If I'd have done as they said I'd be the size of a horse by now and very unfit I'm guessing so gone low carb high fat route and it seems to be working out well for me.

What criteria do you have to satisfy? Any insight would be great then when I see consultant next I can discuss it with her.
 
Good for you! Wish I'd known about it when diagnosed. Struggling to stay off the carbs, having given it a go before Christmas. Need to get properly organised or I just snack on bad stuff.

The main criteria I was aware of were being able to carb count but still having problems controlling levels, hba1c higher than 8.4%, and problems due to slow acting lantus, e.g. night hypos. And a real enthusiasm to go on the pump. That was pretty much it.
 
That's been key for me to be fair, I think when you have a busy life it takes a lot of meal planning but give it another go if you can as it really had benefited me.

Still have the odd binge like everyone does so get my carb fix every now and then haha!

So... Does your nurse know you're doing it your own way? What's their reaction? Have you had an hba1c yet?
 
Yeah she is aware I am low carving but haven't had hba1c yet, I'm due to have it in 8 weeks. Longer than the usual 3 months as I had a foot ulcer on diagnosis that has took until now to clear (several weeks of iv antibiotics! Thankfully at home via. PICC) so I think she is reserving judgement until the results are in!

I've always followed low carb but it was the high/full fat that was a shock to the system, being a woman and all, we tend to avoid haha!! But I'm loving that side of it I must admit!

What diet are you following? How are you with your control on the pump?
 
I eat the same as before diabetes. Traditional balanced diet. Not too much processed / refined stuff. Probably too much in the way of carbs. Lots of fruit and veg. Prob too many treats. Hence the reason I'm looking at lchf. Control is within boundaries set by NHS so they tell me I'm doing OK, but I'm a little unhappy. Want to be better than simply OK.

So the lchf adventure begins properly very soon.
