Hi all,

I’m off for a Carvery today. I go once a week as a treat! Something I look forward to and enjoy! My BG usually spikes a lot after eating. Any advice on what I can actually eat without it spiking!

I know not to have a lot of carbs! But I LOVE Roast Potatoes! Shall I just not have as many? Is Stuffing ok? Or because it’s made with Bread I should avoid it? What about Yorkshire Puddings?
I have been told by my Diabetes Nurse to take 4 units of insulin at lunch. Is this too much or too little?

Afraid we cant help with that, everyone is different, one person may need 2 units for that whilst another may need 20, ie. very dependent on how your body works - to honest, given you're on fixed doses it can be very difficult to work out what you should have - fixed dosages can be very very restrictive but until you get more advice from your nurse and go on your DAFNE course it will be tricky to deal with eating different amounts, but if you go fiddling before you know how to adjust it may well end you in very much in trouble.

Has your nurse told you about correcting highs yet?

I’ve been told to add an extra unit if my BG is above 12 before a meal

UPDATE!!!

Been for my Carvery. I had 3 Roast Potatoes (a lot less than I usually have) Avoided the Mash today! I had a small helping of Stuffing, Yorkshire Pudding (they were only tiny ones) Meat, LOTS of Veg!! Oh and just enough gravy for my dinner. Not swimming in the stuff like I normally would!

The highest my BG went upto was 14.0!! That’s still higher than I would like but is considerably better than last week! Last week was something like 17.5!

All in all I think I did well and I’m proud of myself! IMG_2405.png
