My best friend has type 1 diabetes and has regular hypos where she faints often for an hour at least twice a week, i have always tested her sugar levels when in school and brought her round but now, the school has decided just because I am a child I can't do it any more. Just looking for advice, thanks

Hi

Please tell your friends parents what is happening. She obviously isn't managing her diabetes very well and sadly this can lead to very serious irreversible complications.
You could also tell a school nurse a form teacher or any helpful member of staff

Well done to you for helping

Please let us know how you get on

Good luck
Cara

She is managing it well she just can't feel when a hypo is about to happen, thanks anyway

That's no good, has she mentioned this to her diabetes team Alexa?

Hi

Well done you to keep a look out for yr friend like you are doing. What u need to do is get yr friend to test her blood glucose levels a bit more like b4 brkfast, mid morn ing, b4 lunch, mid afternoon, b4 eve meal, b4 bed and use the results to decide how much insulin is still at work and alter its effect by eating some carb when needed. Most diabetics ideally should try to get a bg level of about 6mmol before a main meal and aim to adjust the insulin so that they r about 8 to 9mmol mid morning and mid afternoon. By doing more bg tests, a lot of hypos can be avoided by tak ing action before the hypo feeling starts.

Yes but they haven't got any previous diabetic experience so they don't no what is normal, and also she has her insulin ratios are really low to avoid this happening anyway but it is not working

How long are these hypos from the time of last injection?

In a difficult period, testing is one way to go, annoying as it is, it works
