Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum but I’m not new to diabetes!
I have been a type 1 diabetic for the past 14 years after being diagnosed as a young teenager.
Along the way I have tried looking after myself as best as I can, testing, taking my insulin, carb counting, the whole lot. Life gets in the way but you are reminded by the condition very quickly if you’re off track! I usually forget I have diabetes as it forms part of my daily routine, it’s just second nature to me now.
Just looking for a community to hopefully engage with, share ideas, learn from others, and pass down any knowledge or experiences along the way!

Welcome Michael I have had type 1 diabetes for 42 years and there is lots of good support on this Forum.

Hi @michael-oreilly ,

Welcome to the forum. 46 years for me. “Life” does have a way of doing what it says on the “tin.”

There can be a fair bit of experience from mistakes made, too.. Glad to see you onboard… :)

Hi Jaylee,

Thank you for your message!

Wow 46 years is incredible! What has your experience been like? Have you had any complications or long term side effects?

Complications? No, if you don’t count the macula oedema they hashtagged “diabetic?”

Apart for that. Not doing too bad.Being mindful of the D, but never letting it get in the way. Life’s good..

Hi welcome 42 years for me , numerous complications , all my own fault , but from mistakes success develops , never down about it never feel hard done by , just deal with it , life is far too short and there are people in this world with far worse than what I have ,
this forum is full of people who are always willing to share experiences and advice
