Hi Harry
It can be devastating when you are first diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes but there are lots of us around who have had it for a long time so anything you want to know, just ask and someone is bound to have an answer. There is nothing like living with diabetes for a fast learning curve!
You can still do most anything you want to do except fly a plane yourself or scuba dive deep, just be aware of your blood sugars, when you feel low especially so you can do something about it fast. If you don't, it can get really embarrassing if you are out and about so make sure your work colleagues know about your diabetes and ask them to tell you if you start acting strangely or differently from your normal behavour.
Nervous system hypos you can usually feel, you get a bit shaky with perhaps a strange feeling around your stomach, but nervous system hypos can creep up on you so make sure you test your blood sugar if you are concerned, especially if you are going to drive anywhere.
Best of luck but keep asking questions.
