Type 1
Hey everyone, I'm new here! My name is Breena and I'm 17 years old. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about 2 weeks ago. I've also been a vegetarian for 5 years now, so my diet is very important to me ! It came with surprise and a lot of emotion, but I've surprised myself with how well I've been coping. I would love for some people my age to talk to and exchange recipes (i love cooking and baking!) tips, stories and just to talk with ! Thank you for all the support I know I will get from here xo

Hi Breena, I'm not young or vegetarian but welcome to the forum, I always find great advice for my diabetes here and great support.

So far I've found some awesome advice and ideas for recipes ! But thank you kindly for welcoming me

I'm not veggie but my bff is and so when with her I don't eat any meat (I know I don't have to but I got into the habbit of eating veggie with her when she was cooking at her place and when we're out it gets me to try new things.) and my diabetes does not go up nor down when consuming quorn or other veggie alternatives. There are plenty of carb free goods out there for when you're hungry but don't want to have carbs (say you're blood sugar is high or you're doing a basal test where you don't use any quick acting insulin to see if your background works). Not sure if that is a concern but I thought I'd address it given you mentioned it :) Cook as you normally do and work till your diabetes fits around it, don't cook to fit around your diabetes. :)
