Hi

Just an update. Today I went to King's for my appointment as they are looking at my possible allergy to insulin, and I
saw the diabetic specialist. They were able to say that my HBA1C went from 90 to 73 and that the insulin is working. They suggested I try a pump.
Initially, I panicked as I had seen years ago and it was bulky, however, when I saw the modern ones I am much happier with that option.

The only thing I wonder is that being a teacher and working with 4 yr olds, how would it impact me? I am concerned as this will be new territory for me.
They did also say that I will spend half a day in the hospital to see which insulin would suit me best, this should be within the next few weeks.

If anyone is on a pump and has some useful info, I would appreciate it! :)

Thank you.

@ausasha, that is great news that you've seen a reduction in your HbA1c :)

A pump shouldn't impact at all in your work with 4 year olds, what concerns do you have in this respect?

How will it affect you work? For the better! As you learn how to use it properly, your levels will get flatter, your health and moods better, etc! You can wear it unobtrusively, clipped to a waistband or tucked in a pocket. There are pouches on sale so you can wear them under your clothes unobtrusively. Even if the kids see it, they probably won't pay attention to it because it looks like a page or a phone. Of course, you can always tell them what it is: a device for taking your special medicine.

Thank you to you both. I think I am just nervous. I just hope it works, I've tried 4 different types of insulin and 2 different tablets and nothing is working too well. I have these reactions to the insulin which is painful. I am hopeful, just hope this works.

Ruth, is there a pump you would recommend?

Thanks again.

@ausasha, try and find out which pumps will be offered to you and then come back and ask for feedback from the pump users here, generally they'll be a choice of three pumps to choose from.
