Hello,
I'm just getting started with the lc diet.

I eat plenty of chicken and vegetables but...

1. I hate the mess of cooking fresh chicken (so use frozen chicken breast usually), and
2. I love the ease of steaming pre-packed frozen veg (generally green beans, or more often just the standard mixed veg packs)

Is there much difference in the nutritional value compared to fresh veg and chicken?

As the veg is frozen soon after harvest it retains most of the nutrients, probably has more than some of the fresh veg which you find on supermarket shelves which has sat for days on end, not sure about chicken though.

Not sure of the difference in mess between using fresh and frozen chicken. Surely you have to defrost the frozen chicken before using? You can buy fresh chicken already diced or get the butcher to dice for you if you aren't keen on handling it.

Frozen veg always handy to have round, just make sure you have LC varieties if that's the way your eating habits are going.:)

thank you,

i tend to use cook from frozen chicken. very little mess.

If in doubt you can also read the nutritional labelling on the packaging, or get it from the manufacturers, producers, or your supermarket's web sites. Google searches will give you the data for fresh produce if you can't find this elsewhere, , but be aware of the the difference between the USA and the UK - look at USA net carbs and UK total carbs. These resources were a godsend to me when I was first diagnosed as I could check for information and choose my low carb products before actually starting shopping.

Personnally, I'd defrost it. I'd also go for the fresh veg. Might add ten minutes to cooking time but you get to choose the veg.

LOL, my greatest gardening talent is growing brambles.

thanks for the replies. my supermarket doesn't display carb info, so I'll try some googling as robbity suggests.
