Please can you give me a simple answer as to how much fruit one is allowed with Type 2 Diabetes, and which fruits are best. I am confused: at the Diabetes Clinic I am always advised that I should cut down but I want to make sure I get my five-a-day

The simple answer is that there is no simple answer. It depends entirely on how your body reacts (specifically blood sugar) to eating fruit. The only way you will know this is by eating, testing, eating again, testing again. Sorry, but it really does differ from one diabetic to the next, especially T2.

The "5 a day" message isn't solely fruit is it? I thought it was fruit/veg, so you could throw a few veggies into that number if you still have problems?

As Kegstore says
veggies are included in that 5 a day. i eat more than 5 veggies most days( greens not roots) and eat fruit occsasionally. I personally can manage bout 1/2 a standard apple without upsetting my bg. A few berries is ok too.
remember a portion is approximately what you can hold in the palm of your hand. you can have a LOT of lettuce or cabbage for a single portion.
