Can anyone tell me if it is ok to do juicing to replace any meal while taking Metformin. I have been type2 for over 12 years and just started on Metformin SR 2 x 500g. :!: :? ShealsMc

I did the juice diet a while back. In type 1, though.

It's a pretty brutal diet, but it works. Good luck with it! :)

I don't know the details of this diet, but by "juicing" aren't you basically refining carbohydrate, and increasing its Glycemic Index?

I suppose if it was mainly fruit it would increase the BS, but if it was mainly veg with a small amount of fruit added hopefully it would be lower in BS, but not sure. I am looking for advice from anyone that has tried juicing, and what result they have had. the diet is on the website juicemaster.com

I have not done a juice diet but I did do the all liquid Newcastle diet. I suggest with a juice only diet you will end up very deficient in some vitamins and minerals. I'm not sure just juice is a sensible approach. If you want to do a liquid diet, why not try the ND?

It was the juice master one. I got the book free with my juicer. It is pretty tough, but I got results. I made some alterations as, being type 1, I needed one proper meal a day to keep the hypos away.

I did the seven day detox and then carried on doing two juices of my choice a day with one proper meal a day.

I used the juice diet as I wanted to lose a few pounds quickly. I definitely wouldn't recommend it as a long-term plan as its pretty hard core.

Good luck with it! :)

juicemaster is a site dedicated to getting people to buy their juicers and books / tapes for weight loss. as a weight loss method it sucks, since it is not sustainable. OK for crash diet i suppose, but crash diets are not a good diabetic idea.

I've used centrifugal juicers and single augers, which are far better:
doesn't burn live enzymes like a centrifuge.
uses 300% less fruit and veg than centrifuge (and i assure you, it GOBBLES up money lol)

I also went veg: cucumber, spinach, kale, no 'bad' veg or fruit. result? blood sugar went mad. becvause you're stripping out the fibre so carbs aren't nett anymore. you've concentrated much higher levels of carb in juice.

The only way to use one as diabetic is <150ml after meal. which is a total waste of time and money, when you can just eat half an apple :)

Sorry to sound so negative, but i spent months trying to incorporate juicing into diet on diagnosis since i used a lot of green juice before when weight lifting. it just doesn't work.

I have bought the Juice Master juicer and have been juicing just breakfast and lunch each day since Saturday and it doesn't seem to have had much effect on my Blood sugar, this morning first thing I tested before having anything and it was 10.2 I had juiced Pineapple and Strawberries then Blended with Low fat Bio Live Yogurt and 150ml of milk with a tbsp. of All bran. Then before lunch I took my blood again and it was 7.1, I am just trying it to see how it goes I am not being really strict as it book say's losing 7lb in 7 days. For me personally I just think eating small meals and being careful what you eat is probably the right way. But my Husband will carry on juicing because he enjoys it. Jason Vale does advocate that if you are diabetic to stay more with juicing the veg and small amount of fruit but his book is of interest to see what each fruit and vegetable is good for, and what illnesses are helped by juicing.

My Diabetic nurse keeps telling me that my Diabetes has nothing to do with diet related, as it is more inherited. I am taking 4 x 500g Metformin, 1mg Glimepiride, 100mg Atenolol, 10mg Ramapril, 20mg Atorvastatin, 75mg Asprin My last Hba1c was 44%. and everything else was normal.
