im T2 on metformin tabs 4 a day. should I be eating fruit? as there high in sugar, also could someone tell me what snacks are low in carbs to eat on the go like snack bars or crisps. are rice cakes ok as a snack? thank you
Neve thought to look at pepperoni sticks to be honest thanks for that. Not a fan of much cheese. Ive also been told pork scratchings are ok aswell? I used to eat lots of fruit but my nurse said fruits fine? But im concerned about the sugar in fruit now so im trying to keep off it. Can u advise me on what bread to eat. Im buying hovis wheatgerm small loaf. Is that ok as I dont like granary bread. Thanks for your help xFruit sends me into orbit, even berries it turns out. Pepperoni sticks, cheese strings, and nuts are my go to when on the go.
Thing is I love apples and bananas I dont really go for berries. Hate strawberries but I do like a couple of blueberries and blackberries. That's about it on berries. Maybe I need to try eating more berries rather than fruitStrawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, black / red currents are generally react well with diabetics. Once you are happy with your insulin resistance, you might consider the occasional half or third of an apple or similar, maybe before exercise (bananas, mangos, oranges and pineapple tend to create spikes). Macadamia, brazil, hazelnut, almond and cashew nuts are great snakes, but be careful of potion size and over eating. If I get caught out, I look for a supermarket to get some warm chicken, brie, pre-washed spinach (really filling), home brand low sugar yogurt (normally thinner and can be drunk). If you follow the low carb way of eating hunger between meals tends to fall away - I am honestly amazed at this, as I work out 2 or 3 times a day without snacking.
