How much fruit should a type 2 eat a day? Now the peach/nectarine season is upon us, I eat one as a pudding and maybe one as a snack mid morning or afternoon, I have a feeling that is going to be too much :(
My diet is : fish, salad, vegetables, chicken breast or pork fillet, I eat loads of veg, so along with the fruit is this too much?

I live in Spain, and in 10 days time I am going on a 3 1/2 hour course, to learn about diabetes. Hope they don´t speak too fast

The only way to find out is to eat something and then test 2 hours or so later.

I find that one piece of fruit eaten with a meal is usually OK. It all depends on how many carbs you eat at that meal and what the fruit is.

Fructose is sugar, and fruit tastes nice because it has fructose in it, some sorts of fruit have more than others. Peaches and Nectarines are about half way good/bad. Mind you, as a frequent visiter to Spain I know how big they can be there, size is important in this case.

Hi Sunhat, I sometimes have a piece of fruit as a snack, often a Satsuma or similar and I get no bad blood glucose reaction from it but as hallii has said best practice is to test before and after eating it and see for yourself whether its something you can safely eat

I had a nectarine 2 hours after lunch (which was a tomato and cucumber sandwich, on whole grain bread followed by 1 apricot) the reading 2 hours after lunch was 9.8 I ate the nectarine then, my reading 2 hours later is 6.4

The nectarine was only small, and not that juicy :( If it is juicy and sweet would that make a difference?

What sort of reading should I be getting after 2 hours of eating fruit? Yesterday I got 6.4 (nectarine) today a sweet paraguay fruit (the peach family) 7.2
Is this an ok reading or not? Confused!

Anything less than 8.5 (per nice guidelines) is an ok read at 2 hours after food.

Some people prefer to use 7.8 as their 'danger mark' but it's a personal preference.

So going off both those reads, what you had yesterday was fine, just be careful not to get giddy cos of the good read and increase the volume you eat. Test test and test again, the only sensible way to go is to 'eat your meter'.
