Type of diabetes
Treatment type
Diet only
i was told i had type 2 diabetes nearly two years ago my hba1c was only 55. i went to the docs feeling ill and they found protein in my urine then refered me for a fasting blood test.
they tried me on metaformin but as i have ibs and gall stones they were not agreeing with me so they decised to stick with just diet control. last years hba1c was down to 53 i was happy. my level this year was 48 excellent. i am happy but not sure how it has gone down has have not ate very wisely but still would have been really chuffed except my new doctors are saying i may not be type two but prediabetic have checked website for chart of hba1c numbers and when i was diagnosed they are at levels of a type two. so i am really confused and frustrated as i dont understand it has been coiple of weeks since they queried my initial diagnosis but no confirmation sorry a bit long winded i know bit just not sure what to expect now just want to know.

I get a bit muddled with numbers too.

55 would indicate T2. Your improved HbA1c of 48 is good, and would take you to 'pre-diabetic' levels. All good if you have done this without medication. Maybe the original diagnosis is less important than the current state? As you say you have not been making wise food choices, then you could still get even better blood glucose control by making a few changes to your diet. You could keep monitoring any improvements if you used a BG meter too.

In the end it doesn't really matter whether you're technically T2 or pre-diabetic when your numbers are borderline. If you eat wisely, exercise as best you can and keep your numbers low then you'll be doing really well and should avoid the need for medication and, more importantly, the complications that can arise from uncontrolled diabetes.

thank you for your help it has helped me feel a bit better and confident that at the end o the day things are going good no matter wat the reason.

Thanks @julifriend. That is what I meant to say.

Well done with what you have achieved. You have the potential to stay in control of BG.
