hi!
its been a while since my last post but if anyone can help me its you guys..

As anyone who follows the novowolf story will know i was relativly close to being moved from mdi to a pump... That all crashed and burned when i was admitted for dka in early november and was told in no uncertain terms i wouldnt be getting my pump as soon as i thought... Dont get me wrong i would love nothing more than to be able to control my diabetes but i just cant do it on mdi.. Maybe im being delusional but i feel my control wont improve untill i get the pump but they wont even consider giving me it until my control does improve.. I dont know what to do.. Any advice at all from anyone would be appreciated
thanks guys

Hi Novowolf, had they originally said that you could have a pump? I would ask for the no decision in writing. Having DKA isn't a reason for not getting a pump in fact it gives you more evidence for getting one.
When I got mine I had asked and asked for years then got the approval and start date in Mar for May, I had 3 trips in with DKA! If anything it really spurred them on to get me on it quicker as i spent more time in hospital than out of it. The number of hospital admissions is something you should use to bolster your case, as the cost of treating DKA is about as expensive as the actual pump. From the age of 14-19 and a half I've lost count of the amount of times I've had DKA, all I know is that I havn't been to the hospital with it at all since I got the pump now 27! I'll let everyone else help with improving the control on MDI all I know is it was impossible for me to do and I owe my life to my pump, don't give up there are ways and means of getting one.
