Not sure I'm in the right place for this one....but I'm just venting really.

I had my sugar levels just right and suddenly I get another big spasm attack on Wednesday where I had spasms from my throat all the way down to my behind. Since then my sugars are running high..... not happy Jan. It's not the food at all as I eat the exact same a lot of the time. All I can think of is it is the pain level or something. I just get the impression I'm on some crazy roller coaster and I'm not getting any stability with anything right now.

I just saw my doc and out of all the things going on I completely forgot to mention my sugar level problems. But he wants me increasing amitriptyline now. I'm just hoping I don't get the joint pain I had last time I was on the dosage my gastroenterologist had me on.... I dropped it by 15mg and not as bad... although severe spasms have increased. I can't win. :(

Body it would be nice if you gave me a break.

Hi. Sounds rough, pal. My sympathies. How high is "running high" - if it's not crazy high then I'd say sometimes we just need to switch off from at lest one thing giving us grief at a particular time...deal with what can be dealt with and keep stress down as much as possible. Reading your signature notes, you clearly have a number of health issues and no doubt all contributing to stress and pain. Blood sugars can go up just coz a pig goes by the window on a Tuesday! So, I'd just see stopping the pain as a a priority at least in the very short term. Hope it gets easier soon. One thing life teaches us is that things change..always. You're obviously a fighter, so you will undoubtedly keep fighting...but take a time out from all the effort and ease up on yourself a bit and breathe...let some stress go if possible. Good luck.

Thank you :) Yes, I'm a fighter.

When I say high I mean I'm waking up between 9-10 which is way too high for me as I usually wake up 5-6.5... then the entire day averages between 7.5 (my lowest in days) to 14. I don't like being high as I know anything over 10 I get glucose in my urine.

I guess my problem is I'm always in pain, just at different levels. This week my pain level was super high on Wednesday especially and it shot my BP up to 169/113 when I checked. Also of interest to my doctor is my c-reactive protein level is always elevated every time he does a full blood count on me. But then I do have inflammation throughout my body so that would probably be the reason for that.

I just wished that I could get good control of everything.... but it seems I can't. If one thing gets out of whack, it triggers flares with other things and on it goes. It does make managing my diabetes harder.

oh yesterday I was 10.4 on waking and I just about had a fit seeing that number. But then that was after a horrible night of spasms... need to remember that I suppose.

I hope it gets easier. I hear that more fat (of the right kind) may lower the morning level a bit if there's no enough fat in your diet,,,that's avocado, nuts, oily fish... and keep the fluids up above 2 litres a day if you can. Keep fighting, pal. My morning levels jumped for a while from under 6.0 to between 8.5 and 9.5 for a wee while and upping the fluid helped.
hugs Paul

I think @pleinster was spot on.
Concentrate on getting your pain relief right and hopefully it will relieve other health problems.
My mum isn't diabetic but she has to do the same about her arthritis and depression.
No one likes constant pain. Use what's available to you to relieve as much as you can. There's no shame in taking pain killers. When you need help, you need help.
I bet you get sick of taking tablets.
Well, you're in the right place to moan about medication.
You're in good company here.
You might be feeling lots better this morning.
I know when I had huge pain I was thankful for amitriptyline. I got relief in bed for a night's sleep.

Thank you :) I'm resting up this weekend as just exhausted more than my usual.

Yes, my docs are trying to get my symptoms controlled but they're struggling. They keep telling me I'm considered 'unstabilised', but it's been that way for years now. It's one of the reasons they forced me to work only part time hours. I'm due a review of that early next year too.

I think the problem is that they don't understand the cause of what is happening to me with some things. Eg. the bladder condition is like living with a constant UTI and to date they don't even know the cause of the condition, so they just try and treat the symptoms. It's one of those conditions where what works for someone else may not work for the next person. Also here I have don't have the same treatment options available as US for example. Some people take heavy duty pain killers for it, but my docs try and keep me on minimal meds as possible as they consider I'm on enough already.

I'm also having trouble getting the right treatment due to lack of understanding of the conditions I've got. My throat and GI spasms happen at any time without warning. My gastroenterologist is trying his best to get my drug combination right but he admitted last consult that he is getting stuck about what to do and he's a professor and one of the best here in his field. So controlling the pain is quite hard. I take painkillers every day. I try and not take extra painkillers during the day and only take them at night. But sometimes I'm having to take more during the day. Of course I never go over the allowed limit for these drugs.

But when it comes to getting good control of diabetes, what usually happens is I get good control during my low pain periods and suddenly I get something that causes me a lot more pain and then I'm having to figure out my diabetes management all over again. My biggest concern is not getting more health issues because my blood sugars have been uncontrolled. I try my best with adjusting the insulin dosages but even then that doesn't seem to always work. It also does put me at risk of hypos when suddenly my body responds differently. I can only keep trying though.

Mel...just reading your posts I have to say your amazing. I know what I'm like if I get a paltry tooth or ear ache....but I simply cannot imagine how to battle on with high levels of pain 24 hours a day. You are very much in my thoughts and I do hope the doc can find a way through to both stabilise and reduce your spasms and associated pain. Best wishes :)
