I was hoping to be surprised at the Prime Minister's response to an interesting question in the House. I've never been a great supporter of allowing "free market forces" to set prices for things but fully understand that if someone spends say £1billion on developing a product then there should be a way of recouping their investment. Although in the case of a lot of pharmaceutical companies they do very well thank you very much.
That's all by the by, I wasn't surprised by TM the PM's reply, although it doesn't really answer the question, just FUDGE.

I think it's worth pointing out that a second generation of FreeStyle Libre sensors which will use Bluetooth (rather than Near Field Communication) is due to be released 2nd quarter 2019. It seems that Abbott are trying to bring down the production cost. The NFC chip evidently costs about 50 US cents whereas the Bluetooth chip is 3 times as expensive. This 2nd generation will smart things like high/low warnings.
Another thing worth mentioning, if you live in Bucks, the CCG has obviously come to a decision about prescribing the sensor. I actually bumped into somebody picking theirs up from the local pharmacy, prescribed by my doctor as well.
