I went to my diabetes clinic today and saw my endo and also saw a dietitian. I questioned why they haven't taught me how to work out my insulin to carb ratio? The answer... oh no we only teach that to diabetics who aren't managing their sugars, you are so you don't need to know that. lol. Omg... thank goodness I did that online course not long back. I'm still trying to figure things out though. Oh and I got told no food or drinks affect the bladder because it has a protective layer (when I was discussing foods I've eliminated for my bladder condition). I said excuse me I'm speaking from experience, and it sure does affect me alright. I felt like asking you do know the disease destroys the bladder's protective layer right? So the answer to how to re-do my diet working around my limitations? Well just eat less of it, have really small meals instead as you can't eat 30g of carb with your meal. Well there you go a low-carb dietitian. lol. I'm just scratching my head about how to replace stuff as she had no suggestions for that. She researches my meds and says oh you're on a few that increase appetite and cause weight gain too... um yes I know. So in summary I learnt nothing new from that 2 hours or so spent there today.

I've cancelled dietician as my insulin need nearly doubled on her carbs. I'll explain to specialist and hope he understands. Just need to lose weight before I see him next. Humf.

Yeh I have to wonder about these dieticians. This one I saw was speaking quite confidently about something she knew nothing about. I think they need more education. In regards to her advice I am not sure if I will put it in to practice as yet as I also have a problem with excess gas when I'm hungry... if I don't eat a standard sized meal I find my stomach and oesophagus fills with air and I get even more pain than usual. So it's about getting the balance right for me. But unfortunately I can't seem to please everything. They basically got upset that I increased my bolus by 3-4 units per meal. But when questioned I said excuse me that was your own advice to me last I was here so I'm following instructions. I don't think our insulin needs stay the same year after year either (I haven't seen them since beginning of 2015)... it doesn't seem to be the case for me anyhow.

I hope your specialist is understanding too.

My dn is excellent. She lets me crack on reducing my insulin and diet choices. Dieticians have no clue about reduced carbs and getting a well balanced diet with it. I need a dietician who respects carbs in type 2s.
Specialist wouldnt accept my liver improved due to stopping heavy fruit taking. He said carbs cause fatty liver which is still true thou.
