Future of the Forum

Good stuff Tubs.

This is where it gets difficult though, if you don't push the Party Line you may find yourself open to prosecution for giving medical advice without qualifications. You may find people trying to have the site closed down as has happened to certain other low carbers (so far unsuccessfully)

OTOH if you DO push the Party Line you won't be doing any diabetics any favours (except some Type 1s on pumps)

Why can't the page reflect what the forum thinks. That there is the party line,BUT that there are other very successful diets that diabetics follow.

Maybe Katharine would let you rip some of her content from D-Solve, she's a certified medical professional with the Right Stuff

Personally, I think the present format is superb, I have found the site very informative and it has helped me to challenge my medication with my doctor something I owuld not have had the knowledge to do previously. My GP was so impressed with the site she has it bookmarked on the computer at the surgery. To cover all eventualites you may need to stress somewhere prominent that the advice given is just that and users should always consult thier doctor before changing anything, just to cover the advisor.

As someone who reads the forum on a regular basis but has only posted a couple of times I'd like to join in this debate!! When I was diagnosed last year (type 2) I really didn't appreciate the seriousness or impact of the disease. I read the forums and followed a few of the threads but felt intimidated by everyone's knowledge and assumed my questions to be, if not stupid, then close to it. I'm wondering if there could be a section where newly diagnosed people could just ask the simplest question and get the simplest of answers ..... without "going public" until they felt more comfortable with it all and ready to accept their lot - does that make sense? It's incredibly daunting joining in with you guys who know all about everything and have strong opinions on some things.

I really enjoy and benefit from reading the many and varied postings - keep up the good work.

Hi Kazzie,

If you want a non-public answer you can always PM one of the moderators and we will do our best to answer any questions you have in confidence.

Don't worry about your questions being daft, Kazzie. We're all still asking questions, even
the experts among us. Posting questions and answers on the open forum means everyone
gets a chance to learn and debate.

Unless your question is "which country invented diabetes?", in which case we'll all roll about laughing.

All the best,
timo.

Hi,

This is my first posting on the Forum, though I have been a reader for a few months.

I was diagnosed as a type 2 in the Autumn of 2003, by accident. I had by bloods tested prior to a hip op, though I had been muttering to my G.P. for several years about being a Diabetic, but

Hello Sadia and a very warm welcome to you. If you don't mind my asking, were these drug research projects for diabetes drugs?

Yes Dennis,

The Research is being done by AstraZeneca. The drugs, if you are on them, take the sugar out of the body via the kidneys, which saves a strain on an already hard worked liver. they do teat that the kidney function is good, of course. it is also meant to burn up more calories, so you lose weight rapidly. My weight loss is very gradual, and my clothes that have to fit around the waist keep being too big for me a month or two after I have bought them!

Who knows what I am on, though I am gaining by being on whatever!

Sadia

The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask.

Most people here (and elsewhere) who are knowledgeable got that way by asking questions. Listening to the answers also helps

The question asked, IMHO has absolutely nothing to do with wrong dietry advice, or low carbing. So why does it always come back to this subject?
Please, can you think of something else to contribute as per question asked. Think positive for a change!
