Hi! I’m Natasha, 24 y/o with type 1 diabetes (over 12 years)
I’ve recently been experiencing fuzziness in my fingers, or pins and needles.. I have experienced this before but never this bad (only when I hadn’t drank enough water) but now it is so much worse and even waking me up during the night! I’m not sure if it is a complication from having diabetes or whether it is a vitamin deficiency or something like that?
I’ve emailed my diabetic doctor so hope to hear back within a few days.. just hoping someone else may have experienced this or have any advice?

Many thanks - and hope everyone is well,

Natasha

Hi @NatashaGray99 it's always easy to assume that every symptom must be caused by diabetes but non diabetics get sick too.

Why not talk to your GP and get it checked out? They are in the best position to determine the significance of the many possible non diabetic reasons for your symptoms?

Good luck.

I agree that it could be any number of things. I recently had pins and needles in my feet and sometimes hands. I’d be awakened during the night with my hands, depending on which hand I laid on. My primary checked for carpel tunnel syndrome and determined that I had Vitamin B12 deficiency. I had a burning spot on one foot too. I was referred to a neurologist to confirm. My ENT had diagnosed me with Post COVID syndrome, which also may include pins and needles sensation. Despite that, the neurologist diagnosed me with anxiety and depression. He said it wasn’t neuropathy. My podiatrist says it’s neuropathy. So, I have no idea what to believe. I’m really confused. I’ve had Type 1 for 23 years.

I hope you can find some answers that help. I wish I had more to offer. Please post what you find out.

So I apparently have low folate, and have been prescribed folic acid to take for a few months. The doctor also said possible carpel tunnel but to wait and see if the pins & needles and pain goes away once my folate levels have increased. So just sat here waiting to see if anything improves… I also do have depression and anxiety which I’m currently trying to get better with, hopefully will have some proper answers soon - thank you all for your comments
