I've been struggling with digestive issues for about 6 months now.. finally saw a gastro specialist who is convinced I have gastroparesis, caused by nerve damage from diabetes. This is all well and good but I don't have a gastric emptying study for weeks yet so I haven't been officially diagnosed, meaning no treatment yet! I was wondering if anyone who suffers with this has any tips on how to lessen the effects as it were. I struggle with any normal bowel movement, especially if I've had a drink the day before! Backwards and forwards to the toilet 20+ times a day! (Imodium does not work) Also burps which taste of rotten eggs! Desperate to get rid of those!

Any tips/advice would be welcome! I'm losing my patience with this illness!!!

I live with severe motility problems of my GI tract. My motility problem affects my oesophagus mostly so they can't call it gastroparesis... although it was explained to me if I had the same problem further down it would be called that. I basically get spasms right through my GI tract. I can relate to toilet trips too. I'm on a few medications to help me with my GI problems and they do help but not 100%. I've had all the tests done... well most of them I think. The gastric emptying study was the first test they discovered my food sits balled up in my chest after eating... that turned out to be my sliding hiatal hernia. My stomach empties 96% after 4 hours... but I'd say this would probably depend on the food I've eaten as I've burped up food 5 hours after eating it as well. I have a chronic burping problem... severe problem that has been going for years now. I hope you can get good help from your specialist and that you get the right treatment. My advice in the meantime to help is to watch your food textures and stick to softer foods. I can't eat a steak for example as I'm in pain for days afterwards. I would have to braise it so it's super soft to eat it. Also if you find you're getting no answers, look for someone more qualified, that's what worked for me as my specialist is a assoc professor and he thinks outside the box whereas a lot of others don't. I wish you the best. :)
