I paid privately to see a consultant who had a good amount of time to see me and to listen.
I was in and out of the hospital with blocked bowels and it was a **** horrible time.
By doing this I could see the consultant with the best qualifications and write ups by googling.. And I jumped the nhs queues to wait and to be seen.
He then reffered me to have every test done on the nhs.... Colonoscopys etc all came back negative. However the "shapes" test came back horrendous. I still had 48 out of 60 dhapes still travelling through my inners after 5 days....
I saw consultant on nhs again.. Only paid privately for initial consultation. He admitted that from the symptoms I had described that he had thought I had ibs, but in fact turned out to be slow colonic transit...
There is the shapes test that could show up how fast your food is processed through your body.
The Consultant and I had long discussions and he would have referred me to the top stomach chap in the country who is in a London hospital.
However, I realised myself and the consultant is now researching this.. What the cause was. It has taken 18 months for my stomach to recover, but I am now discharged from consultants, off all medications and back to very normal digestion.
It would be worth asking if you could have a shapes test done before anything with a stoma bag being considered...
Hope this helps.
