Hi

I have Type 2, since 2006. Still controlled by medication.

I recently had a shoulder operation and was kept in 2 nights because the anaesthetic caused my blood sugar to rise significantly.

Is this normal?

Thanks
Ally

I am not sure about the anaesthesia but surgery itself will increase BG (by increasing cortisol levels), so yes.

Hi ally, I've had an operation about 3 weeks ago and my Bs was higher then my normal levels for about 3 days.

I've had a couple of ops since being diagnosed (nothing really major) and each time I've always been placed into the HDU so that close monitoring can be administered. Also I was required to self test with my own kit every 2hrs when awake and add to the end of bed chart. . . all becaues of my diabetes.
