I feel really guilty/ ashamed of my control over my diabetes, like my HBA1c i think is good (last time over 6 months ago was about 6) but i get a lot of hypos, and am worried that actually im awful at controlling it as often i just dont feel well because of it. i haven't seen my diabetes doctor (or any physical health doctor) since august, and that was when i was meeting my adult team because i was moving from childs to adults services (i'm 19). they haven't contacted me since and i think they said they would after six months, but now it's been 9 months :/ i don't know if i should email someone from the hospital?
sorry for this rambly post. i'm really worried they will judge me when they see me and say i'm terrible at managing this condition, and i also don't want to be unnecessarily bothering them.
does anyone else feel guilty about their control?
thanks for taking your time to read this x

They won't judge you at all, they are there to help you and if your having an awful time with hypo's you need to be seen as soon as possible, why not give the diabetes clinic a ring in the morning and say you've not heard from them and explains that your having some issues at the moment.

Please contact the hospital and say I haven't had an apt please can I have one as having problems. No you wont be judged There is no one who has diabetes that has perfect control or ever likely to have. We all have blips every now and then.

If you are not sure how/who to contact at the hospital, your sugery is another option. You do need guidance on your insulin with those hypos and if they have a diabetes nurse she should be able to provide that. I'm sure they won't judge you as insulin management is not easy for many.

Hi @hollyslot ,

Lay down any guilt & pick up the phone. See the doc for a review. No one gets judged for helping oneself!.

I constantly get missed off my consultants list. Have done for 4 years. This hospital now under scrutiny for their appt system.. So honestly don't worry about any delay. The most important thing is that you get back to their care and look after yourself.

Its tough going in the teens to do this, so don't beat yourself up.... Its norhing when really put in to your lifetime ahead!!

Go on, get in contact with hospital team and get yourself sorted... You can feel better and this will be a step forward...

We all have down days and days where we what to say f### it all. But don't give in keep going make the call or email. ask your nurse about DAPHNE it really helped me get on track x good luck x

Yes to all the foregoing. No one's going to judge you. Their job is to help and support you. Go on, call. Good on you.

Hi Hollyslot,

I think we are all guilty of missmanagement of our Disease at one time or another, so there's no need to feel guilty, or ashamed about that and as far as not seeing anyone for over nine months, this could be due to your change in status from being treated at a childrens facility, too now being upgraded to an adult facility for your future treatment, which could be taking longer than it should. So I would really consider contacting either the clinic you use to attended as a child, or contact the adult facility where you were told you would need to attend, now you are an adult. As for anyone judging you for not managing your condition better, you don't have anything to worry about because as long as you've continued to do all the things you did to keep your BGL's in the mid range of 0 to 10's, plus your next HbA1c is around the same as it was the last time (6) you had them done, they'll be the ones impressed, as you've maintained your control without any contact from them and it should be you who should require an explination as to why it's taken them so long to contact you, that you had to contact them, for your introduction of the new facilities and the staff that you'll be involved with in the future.

You have nothing to worry about and as for anyone judging you I don't think you should worry about that as their there to assist you in getting control of all aspects of this disease and I assure you, your not the first who's found themselves in this position and you definately won't be the last, so there's nothing to be ashamed of and nobody is going to be judgng you. All you should have on your mind is keeping yourself healthy, by eatting the right foods, plus doing some exersise when you can and depending on wether you have type 1, or type 2 diabeties, taking your medication at the right time each day and contactting the adult clinic ASAP for an appointment to commence treatment under their guidence. I hope this is of help to you and I want you to remember that you have nothing to be ashamed of and don't worry about anyone judging you, as only small minded people would even consider judging you, which places them below you, Okay!!! Well I've taken up far to much of your time, so I'll say bye for now hopping that you know you can only get better by following what you already know, so I wish you all the best for your future and your progress with your diabeties.
