I started metformin about one and half months ago and have experienced several problems while taking it. However, I also have problems with a particular tooth on one side possible infection but while it has no root i haven't experienced any pain, I did get earache. I took antibiotics which I think I also reacted too so my dentist prescribed me ethrmycin (excuse spelling error) for 5 days which seems to have worked, but inbetween these problems I couldn't make my mind up whether it was the metformin that was making me feel worse. I suffered from a slight eye disturbance that lasted 10 minutes and reminded me of looking through a prism however I couldn't find a single cause one happened when not at work, one happened on my way home from work it missed a day then had one while i was at work, since stopping metformin not had this problem - any clues ?. Also having pain in my left knee and this morning i now have an aching lump on my hand near my wrist - I know I'm getting on (41 this year) but my body feels like it is twenty years older than it should be - I hate going to the doctor cause i feel as though i am a hypocondriac just because they seem so insignificant on their own. Today I felt really ****** off with the customers and felt down in general but seem to put that down to lack of sugar!!! Could this be the case Again anyone any ideas.

Hi.
Where do I start?
I see you are T2 - Diet only ? Who stopped the metformin, you or your GP ?
The list of things you have going on could be any of a whole host of things ?
They may or may not be Diabetes related ? Stress related ?

You need to see your GP even if you don't want to ! If you tell him/her all the things you have listed here and do not get a good response then ask for a second opinion or referral to a specialist. Once you know what is happening then maybe we can better advise you ?

Incidentally as someone who is 20 yrs older than you I dread to think how you would describe me !!! 41 and Getting on ???? With your health problems sorted you will feel 20 again !! :D

Hi Thanks for replying - it was me that decided to stop the metformin - to be quite honest i didn't want to go on it - i hate taking pills unless I am in real pain. I have attempted twice to take these tablets first time i stayed on them a week stayed off them for a week changed when i took them on my second attempt and managed to stayed on them three weeks and haven't taken them now for just over a week. Everytime I come off them I feel absolutely brilliant and so far this time still feel great apart from today when I was just hacked off - but on reflection not sure whether that was my job. My last test result for my HBa1C was 8.0 - i know they say this is high but i wasn't getting any symptoms until i told them about needing the loo in the middle of the night after eating a punnet of cherries she decided to put me on these pills.

I did think you had decided to stop them. As for the punnet of cherries OMG.
There are many alternatives to Met, just take a look at this link:

You still need to discuss it all with your GP though. Not a good idea to self medicate !
