My change in the UK took a while, but it is the best thing that happened since I was diagnosed aged 11 - I went onto the pump about 9 years ago and moved to France 5 years ago. What a difference here........ I now have a French pump, changed last year as it went wrong and became difficult to read, new one couriered with 24 hours. The pump is superb and now my HbA1C has gone from 11.4+ in UK to 7.6 which after 55 years is considered excellent. It will take tie to adjust and get the best out of, but welcome to the pump users group......
Here continuous blood glucose monitoring is available at a price but is gradually being rolled out and will eventually be covered under the ALD regs (ALD= Ailment Longue Duration and is equivalent to exemptions in UK but is more targeted).
Strange you were offered a pump before having attended any carb counting/dose adjustment training....
where are you based?
often its a tick box exercise, I taught myself to carb count well before DAFNE but still had to attend to get my pump 5 days out of my life I'll never get back... :/
yes hence thinking it was a waste of time! Were you a competent dose adjuster before DAFNE came along though....

Not exactly difficult is it!
No @noblehead only bog standard DAFNE but Northampton wouldn't accept I could carb count without having done the course and therefore held it as a hoop to jump before I got oneSo was that a DAFNE pump course @Engineer88 ? I didn't know that there was two courses, one for pump users and one for those on MDI.

I had the carb course in October 2016 where I received the Aviva Expert Meter which has been a great tool (with a few quirks) and was expecting to go onto the pump before Xmas, but I only received a letter to advise the appointment to see the consultant on the 20th March 2017, this was very disheartening at the time.Strange you were offered a pump before having attended any carb counting/dose adjustment training....

It isn't no....
without being shown the way I would have never of made any effort to work out how it all works on my own.....I suppose this was because I was 15 when diagnosed and laziness was my top priority.........and was on a mixed insulin right up till about a year before DAFNE...
Julian, I've used predict BGL. It's okay, but used to frustrate me as even after a couple of weeks of tests, the predictions weren't all that good. That was some time back though, so it may be better now.Ive just seen on You Tube a great thread: 'TuDiabetes Live interview with Simon Carter, PredictBGL' and have downloaded the App. Has anyone got any experience of this App as it does look quite nice for predictive Boluses and getting a better understanding of trends?
It may also be more hassle than its worth, but curious if its worth looking to adopt once I start on the Pump next week?
