Hi. I've been to a pump information clinic and have applied for a pump today and was just wondering how long it takes to actually get one?
Thanks

The time-scale can vary, I got up and running in 3 months but I've seen some members say they've waited a year, sure @himtoo was one such person (apologies Paul if this isn't the case).

Hi @CarysMia2711
as @noblehead says it can vary from one HCP( health care provider ) to the next.

I had a total wait of 13 months -- this consisted of appointments with my DSN , The pump consultant , multiple appointments with the dietician , and just the fact that my HCP only has 1 new pump starter per month.

hope you are successful !!!!!!! :)

Hi @CarysMia2711 it really depends on the trust as all are different, mine took about a year, some can be a lot quicker, no harm in asking what the timeline looks like with your DSN or consultant though.

So much variation in this!
Mine was really quick, once decided then less than 24 hours. I feel the using saline thing that some people describe on here would have been unnecessary for me personally as I just went straight onto insulin but who am I to say! Probably would be a good idea to push them to let you attend a carb counting course though (something I didn't have opportunity to do pre pump)
First had to split lantus, then switch to Tresiba. When the later failed to reduce hypos just like the first one then a pump was decided upon. They said 'im afraid we will have to consider the pump' and I was so happy, still don't know why they thought I might not want one!
I think being seen in the preconception clinic helped as well. The targets they want a person to achieve with so few hypos really need the pump.
