Since I've begun low carbing, I've had a few spells of getting very cold - the last time I woke in the night. Could this be the beginning of a hypo? I just wondered because I'm taking the same dose of Metformin as I was before I started low carbing (2000mg). I've run out of test strips so I can't test my blood glucose at the moment (getting some more next week). Sorry if this is a silly question - its just that I've never had a hypo before and was a bit anxious incase it was the beginnings of one.

Depending on how low your carbs are, it could be the start of Atkins flu. If that is the case, drink loads of water and it will ease in a few days, then you will have a major burst of energy and well being. If it's not that, then sorry, I dunno :D

Thanks Defren - I don't know much about Atkins flu - but I have cut my carbs down very much so I will read up on it.

Atkins flu is where your body changes how it fuels your body. When we eat carbs, they are used as fuel and any remainder are stored as fat. When you cut down your carbs very low, the body goes into a state called ketosis. Ketosis means the body no longer fuels it's self with the food you eat, but by burning fat. That is why a reduced carb diet leads to weight loss. Ketosis usually occurs in a body taking in 20g of carbs a day or less. I have been in ketosis for a while, and feel better than I have in years, and have lost massive amounts of weight.
