Hi there..I wondered if anyone can help?

I was diagnosed with diabetes in March of 2011..since then I've been told I had Type 2..LADA..Type 1..Secondary diabetes and now Complex Type 2 diabetes for 2 years I had no insulin just tablets..I begged for insulin as my sugars were at 25 and above I am now insulin dependant but also still take metformin (although I don't see them helping any)
I have a Bmi of 26.4.. and an Anti-Gad of 2000+
I have many other health conditions including osteoarthritis in my fingers and hands bilateral De Quenervin's tenosynovitis in my wrists..fibromyalgia.. muscle wasting in both legs along with a frozen shoulder
I find it at times difficult to inject and have told my diabetic nurse this..although not ideal it is why at times I do not take my insulin
My HbA1c went from 7.8 up to 8.6 and I was "torn off a strip" by my diabetic consultant I tried to explain to her that all of the above conditions I have mentioned have been diagnosed since the last time I saw her
My doctor tells me I am Type ! because I have Anti-Gad..I just don't know anymore what type of diabetes I have and as for my nurse and consultant I just want them to give me some slack
I also was off work for 18 weeks while waiting for the above conditions to be diagnosed..fed up is an understatement

Welcome and sorry about all your difficulties. From what you say it does sound like Type 1. But you can soon get it under and control. Your consultant may have been cross about the rise in your HB but actually it's not terrible for someone so newly diagnosed so don't get disheartened. He/she probably saw your first one, which was excellent, and thought you were going to be a shining star of the clinic, then felt guilty at the second one! Still, nobody should tear you off a strip.

If you take it step by step, read up on carb counting and carb to insulin ratios and so on, you will get it and it gets easier. Once you get your blood sugar under control a lot of your other issues will abate.

Have you got the support of a good diabetes nurse?

Where are you trying to inject that you find it difficult? Are you injecting in legs, arms, tum and bum? I understand bum may be difficult but have you tried your legs? Or is difficulty due to another reason such as using your hands
You don't say what regime if insulin you are on. Is it basal/bolus or mixed insulin? If you find it difficult and using basal and bolus regime then perhaps a mixed insulin would be better as fewer injections?

I used to inject into my thighs through my jeans before. But i did get fed up with the injections. My HbA1c shot up and when explained they recommended the pump. It really helped me

No one should be allowed to 'tear you off a strip' but they do......I've got a good nurse and told him I find him more understanding and helpful than any consultant who've just barked 'could do better' without taking their eyes off the computer screen. Diabetes is frightening, depressing and confusing - even to a long term one like me so don't feel alone in feeling like this. The doctors are paid a lot of money to help you, and you wouldn't put up with this if you were buying a car would you?! You'd go to another garage so take control of your own destiny and ask for help from people who are there to support you. I feel happier seeing the consultant if I'm armed with facts from my nurse, and have proof that I'm trying! Xxxx
