Hi, I wondered if any of the ladies could advise on how they got on when trying to get pregnant with type 1? My husband and I have only just started trying but part of me worries that being type 1 will make it harder to conceive. My diabetes nurse says it doesn't but I wondered if anyone could advise based on experience?

I'm doing everything right in terms of the folic acid and keeping my hba1c at 5.8%.

I just wanted a little reassurance as everyone says worrying only makes it harder to conceive.

I don't think people with diabetes find it any harder to conceive than others. The fact you're in good health with a great HbA1C can only help.

Please don't worry. I truly believe worry and stress have far more effect on ability to conceive than diabetes. Keep healthy, keep calm and relax :) Ooh, and keep at a healthy weight. My consultant says that having a normal BMI makes it easier to conceive.

I'm sure you'll be pregnant in no time at all.

Thanks, I hope so! I think I'm just a worrier in general, I feel a bit if extra pressure because of the diabetes and because my husband had a stillborn baby many years ago with a previous partner.

I also come from a family who say "well you probably won't be able to have kids" not based on anything other than them being negative people!!

The combination of those things just play on my mind, but you are right it's important to avoid stress!

You only have to look at previous posts on this forum to see that many of us got pregnant without even trying! I have currently been trying for 4 months but I think they say 80% of women fall within first year of trying so stats are in both our favour! Good luck and try to relax and enjoy - this is supposed to be the fun part after all! xxx

Hey ,

I've had type 1 diabetes for 16 years , me and my partner were very lucky and feel pregnant the first month of us trying .
Everyone is different as we all know and will fall pregnant with In different amount of times . But for me diabetes was no problem when it came down to conceiving , you sound as if your in a good position with doing everything you can to prepare yourself .
Now the annoying part the waiting game lol .

Good luck :)

Hello, I know there are a few pregnant ladies on here at the moment. I had my baby 14 years ago, at the ripe ole age of 42 1/2 years old. :D Good luck an all the best to you and your hubby.

RRB :)

Thanks for all your positive comments and jade88 I wish you all the best too I hope you fall pregnant soon and have an easy pregnancy. I will update when/ if it happens :)

Im type 1, and we tried for 1 year before it happened, and it was the month where we had a death in the family I was away from my husband fro most of it (except doing the deed clearly!) and typically the month I had awful blood sugar control. So it will happen, just keep having fun, and try not to obsess too much, I know I did and just put too much pressure on myself! good luck.xx
