I'm going the hospital on Monday to get a vasectomy.my appointment is at 1 but the doctor told me not to take any insulin until after the op?that'll prob be 4/5pm
by the time I get over anaesthetic.
Any advice appreciated.oh ps to those who had it done is it really sore?

Yes it was sore but not for a few hours then it hurt like hell for around a day if I moved about.

However that was nothing to my initial appointment. I had a young female Australian doctor who's opening line was

"Well Mr xyzzy lets get it out and see if you have anything worth operating on"

That hurt more...

Xyzzy, that really made me laugh! Sorry, I know that probably doesn't help ;)

Anyway, I'm female so haven't had this particular op... I have, however, had surgery recently so can offer some advice on the insulin. I was actually taken into hospital the night before my op and put on a sliding scale (it was a four hour op so they felt this was safer). They told not not to do my long lasting injection the night before. I took quite a while to come out of the anaesthetic. Once I did come round and was semi coherent they took me of the sliding scale and I started taking my own injections again. My insulin requirements have risen quite a lot since the surgery. The surgeon said this often happens as a result of the anaesthetic. The fact that you're less mobile also doesn't help.

Anyway, hope the op goes well. Make sure you have loads of painkillers in the house!

Take care,
Emma

I asked my brother about this as he had the 'snip' not so long ago and as xyzzy said, moving round will be sore for a few days and It helps to wear very baggy tracksuit bottoms for a while,he said that there'll be some swelling and bruising for a while but that's normal which he compared to "A couple of Aubergines in his boxer shorts" so it looks worse than it actually is.
He says it's worth it though as it's much better than using condoms.

My ex-husband had one. I think that's why he's ex - it was my suggestion and you'd have thought I'd offered to castrate him with my bare hands! but he went very willingly in the end.

Anyway, he was sore and swollen, and we found that a packet of frozen peas wrapped in a towel made a good cold compress to help with the swelling.

I think all you men who have them once you've completed your families are real heroes. And on that subject - my ex got married again, had his reversed and they had a son. That was before he left her for wife number 4   . I was number 2.

Another thing. Consider pants rather than boxers as they offer more support.
