getting very scared

first, I have an appointment made with my doctor in a couple of days.

My problem is this - my blood sugar kit broke about a month ago, I got a different make of kit while I was replacing my original one. my new kit was giving correct readings (or so I thought) When I got my original kit back it was giving readings in the 20's while the other kit was giving readings in the 4,5 and 6's. I thought I was fine. However since then I have realized that my original kit was correct - I have now been having readings between 14 and 22 for the past three to four weeks. I was fine before and during my vacation time (2 weeks away). However it seemed to have suddenly risen after this - and the face that my kit broke made me think that it was false readings.

I am getting slightly worried - have ringing in my ears, funny feeling in my neck glands on one side (although this could be my imagination) getting up once per night to go to loo. I have changed the time of medication, I have tried not eating, eating before bed, drinking tons of water, gym-ing it. but still, my fasting is about 14 and it rises constantly up to the 20's, only going down to about 11 after half hour at gym.

as I say I am seeing my doctor in two days - but I am so stressed out now - I feel like I won't even make it until then. Has this happened to anybody before.

I haven't had that, but if youre concerned, don't wait two days. insist on seeing the doctor now. You may need different meds, your diagnosis (which I believe was recent?) could have been wrong and you have a different type of diabetes requiring different treatment; could be lots of things, but don't leave it.

If your levels are so high, it might not be a good idea to be going to the gym and exercising at the moment. Maybe that could wait until you've had a chat with the doctor. If you want to get some exercise, maybe just go for a walk for the moment.

Once you've seen the doctor and hopefully have meds etc sorted, it might be an idea to have a think about eating a reduced/low carb diet, if you are not already doing this. I found that cutting out bread, potatoes, pasta and rice brought my levels down really quickly.

Sorry, that I can't give you any more concrete advice.

thanks guys - I have been going for walks but only the gym seems to reduce the sugar levels and then I am still in the teens. I think I am getting myself worked up which is making things worse. Okay, I could have been better on my vacation, and after, I kind of went into denial, but have been back on track now for a good few days but it is not registering on my blood sugars. I want to go to the doctor while I am fasting, and he can only take me in two days. I am so scared of going in there.

stillearning,
It's not the job of your doctor to chastise you, but to help you to help yourself. BE politely assertive when you see him/her.

just to update - pretty high again yesterday so did an hour and a half of exercise - weights, cardio, etc and checked it after and it had reduced to 6 which was the lowest in the last month I would say - had something to eat (dark ryvita with tomato and half baby bel cheese) after exercise and it rose to 8 and stayed there. Was very happy. Up to 14 when I got up again this morning tho. Overall I think it is coming back down very slowly but am still visiting doctor this week.
