Hiya, was wondering when u go out to eat at a restraunt or pub ect where do u give your insulin do u do it at the table or what i dnt want to offend people in the pub ect but need to have insulin as well don't really think its very hygienic to go to the toilets and do it so was wondering what everyone else does??? X

Hi Leah86

I inject my insulin whilst sat at the table - nobody sees you and as you say it is not hygienic to go to the toilets. The only restriction this gives me is that I need to wear a top rather than a dress as I would not want to inject through a dress - the top is very easy to just lift up slightly to enable the injection. :)

I have done both. I'm not conscious of people watching, nor bothered by what they think, but I think it's polite to be discreet or go to the toilet.

I have only been taking insulin for past 6 months, but have injected myself at the table while eating out with no problems.
But to be honest, couldn't give a **** what anyone thought anyway. Funny, if you are sat in a wheelchair, with bits of body missing, 'shooting up' nobody directly looks at you anyway. LOL.

I always give myself insulin wherever and whenever I need it, and the insulin pen is so good for this! In the old days, when we all had syringes, I once drew up the insulin and injected in my arm while travelling by train. There was an older couple sitting opposite me: 'Junkie' mouthed the older woman to her husband. I wish now that I'd disabused them of that notion but I left them with a story to dine out on.

Good morning Leah.

I say table is fine and never go to the toilet to inject, that's the last place you should go!

There are a few threads on this and other similar threads on injecting in the workplace, in public, etc if you want more feedback.

Good luck for the future and you have a condition that requires treatment. If people object, then it's their problem.

All the best,

Mart

Thanks mart i work in a hospital so they shouldn't be bothered there!!! As i thought to myself yesterday its saving my life and my children see me do it and they don't have a prob so everyone else can mind their own!!!! Xxx

Well put and well done.

You wouldn't have someone perform surgery in a toilet, so why risk infection in a dirty public toilet, where goodness knows who's been in there.

Keep well.

:)
