Hi all

I have been on a diet now for two weeks and lost ten pounds no sweets low carb but my bs is just going up and up. between 15 and 22 i dont understand why and i feel really really down about this i cant stop testing to see if theres a improvement but no just going up for no reason,

Its affecting bad and today i feel suicidal i think because of my bs and my bipolarmy bs was lower when eating chocolate all the time and loads of carbs so whats the point it looks like i will have to go on insulin which i dread as the doc said i will put on weight which is mad because im trying to lose it.

I get the shakes like im having a hypo and get all excited my bs has come down and when i test its around 15 i just dont know what to do/

Hello again debi. :)

Sorry you are feeling so down and that your levels are going haywire. Just keep doing what you are doing and try to get an appointment tomorrow with the GP or DN because there must be a logical explanation.

Hang on in there and don’t give up! :)

hi thank you but if i go to the docs they will just put me on insulin and theres nothing they can do about my bipolar as im on the max medication for that,
Im just stuck

debi,

Don't give up! You have done so well to lose that weight in two weeks which shows you are making progress. Go to the drs tomorrow, maybe insulin could be a short term measure whilst you get better control. Besides the dr can't make you take it, and if he knows how against insulin you are he may have something else to offer.
Diabetes is tough without bi-polar as well.
Please don't give up and let us know how you get on.

Debs

Is there anybody that you can contact today about your bi-polar? You really need to speak to someone who understands you and your bi-polar...

Sadly there are times that diet alone can't sort out and maintain blood glucose levels, and some form of medical treatment needs to be added... I know you fear the use of insulin, but even at this stage there is still a possibilty of being able to use oral medication... You have to speak to your doctor about this as any treatment has to be decided between you and them to be implemented...

If there opinion is the best way forward at this moment in time, is implementing insulin, this will be based on your medical history with medical presentation now, they will be aware that of the interaction that your bi-polar has in all this, and having excessivly high blood glucose, not only puts the phsyical body at harm, but also has an impact on the diabetics mental health as well..

As you are a T2, it may well be that yep you might have to use insulin to bring those BG's down into a safe region, but it doesn't necessary mean that you have to inject for the rest of your life, once everything under control, so far you've really done well on your weight lose if you can continual to slowly lose your weight then it possible that eventually you can start looking into coming off the insulin and may be able to use oral medication to maintain your BG's... Time well tell on this as good indicator, is as you lose the weight it take less and less insulin to maintain the control..

You need to note down, all your fears surrounding the use/implecation of using insulin, and take this with you when you see your doctor, as then they will know where you coming from and more able to work out your best way forward and ensure that they help and support is there for you...

Hello again Debi :)

The suggestion by Jopar of writing down all your feelings and the things you want to say about how you feel and what you are worried about is really important. I know how easy it is to forget or not manage to convey exactly how I feel and the resulting frustration is hard to bear! Do write it all out and go to see the doctor with your notes so that you can make sure they understand where you are coming from.

You do need to get more help. <<<Big hugs>>> coming your way - and do let us know how you get on. :)

Hi all

just looked up one of my bipolar tabs quetiapine and it says puts blood sugars up and not to be taken by diabtetics.Well the docs really no what there on about then,

Will be coming off them as of today and will go to docs to see if there is another tab i can take,

love debi x

Hi debs,
Sometimes the Dr. may decide that the bipolar is more important to stabilize than deal with the blood sugars. It is often difficult to get a fine balance between.
I did mention in a previous post to you that it would be a good idea to look up any mood stabilizers or anti depressants that you are on to see if this is causing higher blood sugars. You may be able to find some, by doing a Google search, that you can tolerate and can ask if they would be suitable for you. If he needs you to stay on the same ones then please ask him how you can tackle the blood sugars.

There is always a difficulty with other health problems and diabetes and that is why it is essential to know the full story.

Hope all goes well for you at the Dr's and let us know. You seem to be having a hard time with medication issues and family problems.

((((hugs))))).

Catherine.

If your BG goes up very high and you feel really ill, take yourself off to A&E.
