Glad to be here.

Hi Rosemary, yeah I haven't been on facebook for ages, I seem to spend most of my time on here, but fortunately my friends understand and txt me instead lol.

You will probably be testing quite a lot to start with i.e. first thing in the morning (fasting) berfore each meal and 1 or 2 hours after, and bed time but once you get to know what foods spike and which don't you will feel more confident. I don't alway test every meal every day, sometimes I vary it a bit and test after breakfast and evening meal, or lunch and evening meal or breakfast and lunch. I always test if I am trying something new or if I am unwell (got a cold) as this can spike your bg. Testing is a very individual thing, you will soon get used to it and becomes part of your everyday routine. if you set your lancet pen to the lowest to start with and don't press it against your finger it doesn't hurt and should produce enough blood to test, if not turn it up a notch.

Hope this help and let me know how you get on with you meter.

Marilyn xx

Right now I am feeling up beat...For my dinner I am having Sweet potato and swede mashed, with Curly kale and spring greens, onion garlic and mince...Can't wait to go shopping tomorrow and buy all my new ingredients from what I have found on here...I have also made a pint glass of sparkling water with the juice of lemons topped up with ice...So cheers to you all on this lovely Sunday afternoon...xox

Oh no I wasn't blaming it on my Diebetes,I was just making a joke out of my mistake...Anyway I am getting my meter today,so another step in the right direction,Also looking forward to shopping as I am filling my cupboards with all my new foods...Never thought shopping would be so exciting...

yes, I went out and filled my pantry with lots of stuff I've never encountered before. the other thing I found out, is that if you can make lettuce soup in a plastic bag in the fridge, after a couple of weeks

Lettuce soup, really, not sure I will be adding that lol...I have ordered my meter today so soon I can do my testing,my shopping experience today will be so different, just looking at the food section on seeing what to buy,I have also ordered my self a little chest freezer so I don't feel like am standing in the kitchen all day cooking,it's hard work, but untill I get my meter,I won't know what spikes me.

I wasn't brave enough to try it. I put the bag of fridge made lettuce soup in the bin with the dehydrated carrots and the delusional cheddar cheese that thought it was blue vein

Hi Rosemary,
If you haven't bought your SD codefree meter yet they are slightly cheaper direct from http://www.homehealth-uk.com/medical/blood_glucose_monitor_testing.htm. The meter from there with 10 strips and a lancet thing is £11:60 inc post. I have Just ordered 500 strips from them for just over £50. I have used my meter for about 3 weeks and am very happy with it, I compared it with the Accu-Check Aviva I started with and the two agree within their tolerances but the SD strips are about 1/4 of the price
Cheers

Hi Batholiths, yes that's the one I bought, can't wait to start testing, just to put my mind at rest, not looking forward to the pricking of my fingers,do you have any tips please...xox

Lol yes side of finger setting on 2 and close your eyes the first time. Put strip in before pricking finger and then bring end up to edge of drop.
