hi there diligent
me too bs running at around 11.8 on waking then going up to 15 during the day. have taken the medication metform slow release but these worked a treat for the first couple of days got my bs down to 8 and 9 then for no reason other than stress, levels shot up.
this is a really good place to start there is loads of help if you read thru the posts, i am a novice and only just started on here recently, but there is really good advice on here. you have to take your time and work out what works for you. small changes that are long lasting can have the biggest impact.
my advice which i am trying to do is
sort out food intake - what suits and cut down quantity
move more - whatever it is just move, walk, clean, wash, sweep any kind a movement, the more energetic the better
always go to see the doctor and nurse regularly - keep track of your own numbers (and find out what they mean and what you are aiming for)
lastly - don't panic, accept this is where you are right now and work out where you want to be and then try to get there.
i'm really strugglin at moment to get mine under control but at least i have started to control it, and i won't give in and i will keep on trying
hope you feel better too

Hi Diligent :)

Sounds like you would benefit from knowing what food is causing these high BG levels. Do ask your DN or doctor for a meter and testing strips so that you can actually see waht is happening; you need to test before eating and 2 hours afterwards.

I suggest that you start keeping a food diary and note the readings against the meals and in that way you will see any patterns emerging and learn what to cut down or out or what is ok to eat.

If you get a Collins gem Carb Counter (£3.99) or similar book you will see what the values are for a wide range of foods and be able to make informed choices.

Are you suffering from an infection? This often raises blood glucose levels. Have you been taking any other medicines before the Gliclazide such as Metformin or can't you take that? Some people are able to keep blood glucose levels okay with diet only but if you have to take prescribed medication you still have to watch what you eat, and the portion size of what you eat. Testing is the only way you will know how certain foods affect you.
