i have been advised that i need to start taking gliclazide on top of metaformin as my HbA1cc level is now around 9%

Any advice on side effects and how to avoid them as well as diet to help me manage my Diabetes better, would be appreciated

Searching the internet for "patient information leaflet" gliclazide ..will yield quite a bit of ✻useful info✻ about this sulphonylurea ..and the possible side effects .."although not everybody gets them."

I have been on glicazide for 8 years now, and it suits me. I started on max dose (320mg/day) and it initially did not work because I had very high insulin resistance. I went onto a low carb diet (LCHF) and very soon I found I was having ro reduce my dose to avoid hypo;s. The hypo;s when they occurred were quite gentle and short lived so not a problem, but is a noted side effect. I had no other side effects and for me it has worked well. I am still lowish carb diet but not keto. i find it can drop my bgl by abour 3 mmol/l even at just 40mg minimum dose, so I use it to allow me to eat a higher catb meal without worry,

If you are a driver then you can talk to your GP about getting a meter since this drug can causd hypos and they should support you with test strips. Mine does. But you need to have some evidence of reaching near hypo levels. I privately funded for a short while and got some impressive graphs to back me up.
gliclazide is a second generation sulfonyl drug, and does not suffer from the supposed beta cell burnout that the original ones were reputed. Studies have shown long term use does not thrash the pancreas.

Some stuudies show that this drug has benefits in terms of cardio care and has other benefits other than just blood sugar levels. Since going onto the Glic, all my HbA1c results are below 48. I started 8 years ago at 106 so the diet + med combination has been effective for me.

as diet to help me
Many of us find adopting a low carbohydrate way of eating keeps our blood sugar levels down, many without medication
