Hi all

can anyone tell me how long does it take for your body to get rid of slow release gliclazide

Just been told i can stop taking this tablet as my A1c is 5.9 (down from 10.3) so i want to know how long it lasts in your body

Thanks

Juliex

Hi Julie,

Cant exactly answer the question but got told today I can come off my gliclazide (30mg not Slow Release) - I am to monitor the BS and if it starts to climb I am to go back on it. The consultant said I should be able to tell after about 4 weeks whether I need to back on. This would imply that it can take one/more weeks for the drugs to exit the body fully.

However don't take that as an exact answer as everyones' body is different and I suspect some drugs exit the body metabolism faster than others.

I think you may find that the effect of Gliclazide wears off after a few days. A typical dose has an effect on the pancreas for about 10 hours according to a DUK article; SR may be a bit longer. Therefore I suspect there should be little affect after a few days; but Googling the web might bring a more scientific answer.
