Can anyone give me any info on Gliclazide please. I had a telephone consultation with my GP this afternoon after Hba1c results and Dr
said she wanted me to start taking Gliclazide, I already take 3 x 850mg of Metformin, Clopidigrel, Citalopram and Simvastatin each day.
Thanking you

Hi Gliclazide is often prescribed following Metformin. It stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin. It is most useful if you are a near normal weight T2 where it is suspected the pancreas islet cells are failing. The dose may need to be adjusted down to avoid hypos if it works too well. It generally appears to have few side effects. I was on the full 320mg dose for years but for me it didn't help much hence the insulin I'm now on.
