Just been put on gliclazide due to not having my blood tested for over 2 years by my GP and my bloods getting up to 9%. I don't really want to do this. Are there any alternatives you could suggest?

The best alternative, in fact I think the only alternative to medication, as far as I know, is to not eat the food/meals that are causing your high levels.
So if you haven't already got a meter, get one, test just before you eat and again around 2hrs later. If the second test is 2mmol or more above the first then that meal or food had more carbohydrates than your body can handle. If you keep a food diary with meals and portion sizes along with your test results, within a few weeks you will understand exactly how you need to change your diet.
