I have just been prescribed this tablet on top of Glucophage SR which I have been taking for around 7 or 8 years. I was prescribed Liniglyptin or something like that last year but reacted badly to it after 2 weeks and was then taken off it. I came out covered in a rash all over my face.

I was left to continue with Glucophage SR only for a few more months but it is clearly not proving to be enough to keep by blood sugar levels down.

I don't like taking medication but realise that sometimes there is a necessity. Has anyone any experience with the addition of Glimepiride to a 2000mg dose per day of Metformin. At the moment it seems to be increasing my desire for sweet foods which I have always tried to limit. It has become a craving on a daily basis.

I have tried the reversal diet in an attempt to come off any medication but struggle to maintain the very low calorie intake for more than a few days.

Any ideas please. I would be so grateful for any help. This is my first post.

Hi. I was on Gliclazide for many years in addition to 2000mg of Metformin SR. I never had any problems with that drug (both are sulphonylureas). You may want to simply concentrate on a low-carb diet and not think calories. Reduced calorie diets tend to assume that all food calories are equal but in practice the body handles fat, for example, in a very differ way from a carb. So reducing calories helps but reducing carbs is for many the best approach to keep blood sugar low (and weight). Increasing protein and fat can help stave off hunger.
