Glucophage SR and hiatus hernia

Hi
Ben on Glucophage SR for 3 weeks now (preventative measures only-not diabetic) and haven't had too many side effects thankfully just niggly stomach ache!
The only thing I have noticed is that I have started to get symptoms from my dormant hiatus hernia which was diagnosed years ago but I have hardly ever taken tablets for, and have only problems with once in a blue moon.
Does anyone else have similar problems with their hiatus hernia since taking Glucophage or is it in fact just side effects of the Metformin?
PS I take the MF tablet in the middle of my breakfast and evening meal.
Thanks

Hi Witsum,

I too have a hiatus hernia that causes me little trouble, but from time to time it can flare up, and certain medications can often be responsible. I know little of Glucophage, but here is a article on the drug from the netdoctor site I often use:

I have a hiatus hernia and used to suffer with reflux before I started on metformin. I treat with the proton pump inhibitor Lansoprazole and do not suffer with any reflux sometimes caused by the metformin. The Lansoprazole also protects me from the aspirin I have to take.
If you are suffering from any reflux etc, I suggest you go back to your GP and raise the issue.
