Glucose blood test

Had a fasting Gloucose test and it was 48 is that normal or high. I was told a few months ago I wasn't prediabetic anymore. My Doctor at the Hospital is a bit flippant about it she is on really interested in my renal function have had a transplant. She just said oh that's fine stop worrying about it. So can anyone tell me what is normal.

i know a fair bit about Diabetes and a 48 is a number to be investigated -- not to be dismissive of.
with having had a transplant already i would be talking to your liaison person at hospital as soon as you are able ( monday I think now )

how are you feeling in yourself ??
 
Hi. I feel very well thank you. Would you say that I'm still prediabetic then? I was just looking at my results on line over about six months and that's the lowest it has ever been. I just had a thought it wasn't the glucose test with drink it was the blood test does that make a difference?
 
hi Lilliepop -- the number 48 has me a tiny bit confused --- as a mmol/ml number ( current blood sugar ) it is low and should have required some glucose -- this would be found out by using a blood glucose meter and taking an immediate sample -- 5 seconds to get a result

as a HbA1c number it is considered to be diabetic number
and an average over the past 3 months of your blood sugars. -- blood sample taken and sent off to lab taking 3-7 days usually

do you know for sure what the number 48 was given to you as ??

it was a fasting blood test done at the hospital. I have it done about every four months. And this is the lowest one I have had so far. On my on line patents view results it just says gloucose 48. I'm confused now. I used to go to my GP ones a year to have a HbA1c but have stopped that now. Feeling a bit worried now.
 
48 is an HbA1c result that puts you in diabetic territory see link provided http://www.diabetes.co.uk/what-is-hba1c.html

please don't worry -- but do get back in touch with your care team at hospital -- considering you have had a transplant they should be at least looking at that number wanting it a bit lower ( 35-42 )
 
Hi. I have decided to go back on the low carb diet from today. See if I can bring it down. Not looking forward to it as I have gone right off the rails eating what I like. But will keep having a look at DUK to get some in help. Thank you.

I have made a right bobo know wonder I'm getting confused. I'm saying my fasting gloucose test result is 48 it should have been 4.8 does that make a difference? I'm sure it must do. can someone tell me what this mean I'm I prediabetic or not?
 
A fasting level of 4.8 mmol/l is one associated with non-diabetics (up to 5.5). Well-controlled T2 diabetics can also get those figures by diet management etc. By itself it doesn't confirm anything, you would need an HbA1c for that.
