Hello.

I know that when you get sick, glucose control gets worse.

However, in my whole diabetic journey from diagnosis to full on insulin dependency (less than a year) I've noticed that every time I get sick, not only does the control get worse, but when I get better, it never goes back to where it was before I was sick. Has anyone else experienced this? and are there any thoughts on the matter? I will be seeing my DSN tomorrow and she's not going to be happy that I will need an increase in my quantity for the repeat prescription and if there is anything advice I can bring in with me on the matter, it would certainly be appreciated.

Short history...I'm diagnosed as a type 2 (purely based on HbA1C and weight) but have suspected for at least 6 months that I am LADA the way this has all progressed (complete null response to insulin resistance meds and gliclizide rapidly lost effectiveness within months) and I think this might be a strong confirmation of that if things are getting worse every time my immune system is getting riled up...

I realise that you've probably been waiting/hoping for a response all day, but it looks like there haven't been any LADA experts around. I'm sure they'll turn up soon, hopefully before your DN appt...

I'm not knowledgable enough to comment, I'm afraid - I don't even know if diet affects LADA the way it can for type 1s and 2s. Have you found that it does? And if so, how?
 
It's very much like type 1 for me. Doesn't matter what the glycemic index of a food is for me at all...whether it shows up rapidly or slowly, the numbers for me eventually reach the same level and don't go down without insulin at all. In some ways I prefer faster digested carbs because once my sugar is back to normal a few hours after eating, I don't have any surprise rises :-) but that's just me being silly and liking convenience over quality

Anyway, no big deal if no experts chime in, I'm off to bed and my appt is 9am. Nite nite all!

LADA also known as late onset T1 is the same as T1 as far as treatment goes., the only difference is the length of time it took to get there. Some people take several years, with an accompanying honey moon period. Me ? I just dropped off the cliff. It is what it is and each of us needs to do our best to manage it.



Late onset T1, several auto immune issues.
Humalogmix25 twice a day, Methotrexate 25mg once per week, FolicAcid 5mg once per week, prednisolone 5mg daily, Allopurinol 300mg, Calcichew-D3 800iu, Levothyroxine 50mcg, Atenolol 50mg, Losarten 100mg, Aspirin 75mg, Nicorandil 20mg, Nitrolingual GTN spray, Metformin 2000mg, Allimemazine 10mg, Lanzoprazole 30mg, Atorvastatin 20mg, Co Codamol 8/500mg, Depo Medrone (Methylprednisolone) or double Prednisolone for 7 days in case of RA flare.
 
She was actually really nice about things. Agreed that i don't sound type 2 at all the way this is all progressing but admits to not knowing enough detail to help. She suggested that I speak to my GP about differential testing. I got an appointment for Saturday. She didn't have a problem upping my insulin or anything as she's a type 1 herself
