I was recently tested for type 2 diabetes, I had the Glucose Intolerance test and blood tests and was told by G.P secretary that everything came back clear HOWEVER...I am suffering from hypos (especially after missing a meal in the day) and some of the symptoms mentioned on this website !!!! I am not anaemic...so do not understand what is going on with my health ??? I have a glucometer as there is diabetes in the family...sometimes the readings are absolutely fine...sometimes they can read up to 12 after testing within the two hours of a meal....very confused can anyone help to this query ????

Hi. Some people do suffer from large sugar swings with no obvious cause which is a problem. Obviously having a hypo is the opposite of diabetes and can happen with anyone occaisonally although not on medicine. A reading of 12 two hours after a meal does indicate that your insulin is not being properly controlled by the body assuming you don't have an illness which does raise sugars anyway. I can only suggest taking occasional meter readings and if the swings become more extreme or the sugars move upwards go to see the doc again.

A Glucose Tolerance Test is a pretty good test of how your body deals with sugars, if that was normal and blood tests (I am guessing HbA1c and maybe some others) normal then you don't have diabetes.

There are other conditions that can cause BGs to fluctuate and many prescribed drugs will do it. The doctor is the one to sort out what is going on, it might take a bit of try it and see but your BG figures are nothing to worry about really, and remember that home testing with finger pr1ck is not very accurate anyway.
