Hi was diagnosed a month ago and have been testing to work out how my new low carb diet was affecting my readings, but on four occasions now my level has risen overnight does anyone know why this is happening as its very frustrating when all is good at night time but too high in the morning. !!!!

Thankyou bulkbiker will read into it. Thought I might have been raiding the fridge in my sleep for real instead of just dreaming about it.

are you eating before bed? Are you testing AS SOON AS YOU GET UP? testing after moving around for a while tends to raise BG for some, me included even when I was T2

The reason why your FBS, are high in the morning is because you are still insulin resistant, and your liver is chucking out glucose, your liver needs time to heal, keep up with the low carb diet ,and before long you will start to see your BS drop. good health to you

How long will it take for the liver to heal, on average ?

I've been diagnosed recently (HBA1C of 97 ) and bought a meter which arrived yesterday. Tried it out straightaway, which was 4 hours after lunch, and got a reading of 4.7. Tested after dinner and it was 5.3 so I started to feel smug about my hard work at dieting paying off, then tested first thing this morning and it had risen to 6.7!! After 12 hours of no food. Then tested mid morning, having not eaten for 15 hours, and it had risen even further to 7.3. I felt like crying. Just before lunch it had dropped slightly to 6.5. I posted on a different thread on this forum and lots of people reassured me that this was normal.

I still don't understand how it can go up even though I've not eaten, but am glad others can advise. I'm only 4 weeks into this journey so need to get to know how my body is processing food.

I hope your morning readings (and mine) start coming down. I'll be interested to see mine tomorrow morning. There's a thread where people record their morning readings, but I had a look at it and most people seemed to be recording 5 or thereabouts.

During my last visit to to doctor at 11am, having not eaten since 10pm the other day, i told the doctor i dont eat breakfast, and i only take my meds at around 1 hour before lunch. He then said he expects a high reading, he tested me and sure enough it was 9. I asked him why. He said without the meds even after fasting, he said glucose is still leaking into the blood. He told me to take my meds even if i dont take breakfast.

I followed his advice and i get a good reading the whole 24 hours now.

That's just my case, yours may be different.

Does that mean that, when your fbs results start to come down, you know whatever you're doing is working? And what happens if they don't shift?

I've posted in "Not Diabetic Anymore. Confused As Heck" Too long to rewrite here but I went to the Endocronologist and found out WHY this happens.
